Coshocton Co., Ohio, Residents Requesting Revolutionary War Pensions

Abstracted from Coshocton County Common Pleas Record B, microfilm GR 5335,

Liggett, Akron, Ohio

pg. 615 - 17 August 1823, Peter DILLON filed his application to be 
established on the pension
list of the United States.  Resident of Coshocton County.  Aged about 70 
years.  Enlisted for
the term of one year on or about 28 or 29 October 1775 as near as he can 
recollect at Kingston,
New Jersey in company commanded by Capt. John PULHAMIS or PURHAMIS in 
the First
Battalion of the Regiment commanded first by Col. Lord STERLING 
afterwards by Col. WINDERS
in the line of the State of New Jersey.  On the third day of November 
1776 he was ordered to
accompany a detachment of the sick soldiers from Ticonderoga to Albany.  
None of the officers of
his company, battalion or regiment being there.  He was permitted to 
return to New Jersey where
he applied to Capt. PULHAMY for a written discharge who deemed it 
unnecessary as the whole
company were considered discharged their term of service having expired 
and had faithfully
performed the duty required of them.  Battalion was never engaged in 
battle during term.  Indebted
to Joseph OAKS $22.12 1/2, to Israel DILLON $15.00, to Thomas DILLON 9 
1/2 bushels
of wheat $4.50, to John WOLF 8 bushels of wheat $4.00.  Occupation, 
weaver.  In consequence
of debility and infirm old age have not been able to follow since 1818.  
Residing with him, wife
Mary DILLON age 52 years, "who is by no means able to scarcely withstand 
the toil of even
cooking for herself and me and were it not for the little assistance of 
a son and daughter in  law
I should with my aged wife have to ask the aid of public or private 
charity."
